The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) issued a notification on July 29 that provided 27% reservation for OBCs and 10% for the EWS category in the NEET-UG and PG (All India Quota) examinations (All India Quota).

The Ajay Bhushan Pandey Committee’s recommendations were also followed by a bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and A S Bopanna, who kept the Rs 8 lakh income cut-off for identifying those eligible for the EWS quota for the current admission cycle.

The petitioners had challenged the recommendation, stating that the report confessed that the government had conducted no research prior to creating the Rs 8 lakh quota for EWS in 2019.
